R.I.P. To our brother “Pimp C

Any fan of real hip hop doesn’t just watch it to see the rap video girls.

Video vixens are the sweetest of all hip hop honeys, but the two first words are hip-hop! If names could appear in the definition

Bun B would be one that you would see. He has laid a big foundation underground. Also well supported by Texas (USA). He is a Legend already, and not finished.

II Trill Street Date: April 15,2008

II Trill is Bun B’s second solo album and you can bet it won’t be his last.

With the death of Pimp C, Bun’s UGK partner-in-rhyme, the duty of upholding the group’s legacy now falls on Bun.

Speaking of which, Pimp gets two tribute songs on II Trill. Collaborators on board for the album include: Lupe Fiasco, Lil Wayne, Chamillionaire, and R&B singer Mya.

VIBE says:

Bun B is discovering more sides to his story. The rap elder statesman’s second solo album shows growth and maturity, positioning him as a multifaceted stylist. While his solo debut, Trill (Rap-A-Lot, 2005), showcased collaborative clout, II Trill affirms his versatility.

Hungry for Street Bun? See Another Soldier,” where he fires off a warning shot to suckers. Happy Bun? Try the syrupy “Good II Me” with R&B songbird Mya. For a mournful dose, there’s “Angel in the Sky,” a warm paean to his UGK partner, the late Pimp C. “Get Cha Issue” will satisfy conscious fans, as he rails against a corrupt justice system and proselytizes about religious responsibility. “Pay your tithes, put rings on your fingers and rims on your ride,” he raps.

The most arresting manifestation though, is Hopeful Bun, which shows up on “If It Was Up II Me.” Accompanied by slow-rolling church organs and a powerful Junior Reid chorus, the Port Arthur veteran dreams of a world where “everybody’s gettin’ money and everybody’s smiling.” II Trill draws its cohesion from its production, a sonic stew of juicy grooves, synth patches, and gumbo-thick basslines. But what makes the album tick is an emotional complexity: Like an old sage, Bun B gracefully vacillates between raw fury and weathered wisdom.

Hip Hop Honeys Lil Mama

Lil Mama Street Date: April 29, 2008

Hip Hip Honeys Lil Mama is stepping her game up. Stay’n hot being the hip hop model for younger girls to follow. I just can’t believe my little honey, is a role model for all these hunnies coming up in hip hop. (Harlem) Lil Mama

It’s one thing to have a successful rap single. It’s another thing to parlay that success to a full-blown career. Despite spawning one of the more recognizable hits of the last two years, the schoolyard anthem “Lip Gloss,” Lil Mama is still trying to break out of the one-hit wonder identity. The 18-year old newcomer has been hard at work on her debut, Voice of the Young People, for several years. Hopefully, Mama’s fun, fly, and frenzied style of hip-hop will make her a mainstay in the future.
