A Gas Forge May Be The Solution For Your Work Shop
The modern blacksmith may use either a solid fuel forge such as a coal forge or a gas forge The coal forge is still the most versatile, but a propane gas forge is the most convenient. Gas forges run at a bit over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is certainly enough to do general forging.
The propane forge is actually an insulated box of various sizes and shape, that have one or more burners in the top or the side. The burners may be atmospheric or have an electric blower attached to them. The chamber holds the heat to heat the bar, and the burner provides the heat. Of course with a propane gas forge you are limited by what you can fit in the box.
The insulation in a blacksmith gas forge is a high temperature ceramic fiber. Trade names are Kaowool, Durablanket, or Fiberfax. This insulation allows the high temperature inside the gas forge but prevents the outer shell from deteriorating. Hard or soft firebrick can also be used to lock the heat in the forge chamber.
In some blacksmith gas forges the insulation material is a castible refractory. This is more like a concrete that you mix up and shape to your gas forge chamber. This is more of a heat shield than an actual insulator. This type of gas forge will take a while to heat up. The refractory acts as a heat sink until it has soaked up enough heat that it reaches an equilibrium between the high temperature inside and the loss to the environment.
The refractory is more durable than the common fiber insulation, but you sacrifice thermal efficiency. It is also much heavier than the Kaowool insulation. The castable is much less flexible than the fiber insulation as well. This means that it will crack with repeated heatings. This may not be a problem as the pieces usually do not fall out.
The option of a gas forge is a great bonus to the modern blacksmith. For those that want a quick heat source with minimal maintenance, such as hobby blacksmiths it is ideal. Many professional blacksmiths make their living with a propane forge, and only use a coal forge occasionally.
The small size of a propane forge means that it can be quite portable. Many hobby smiths will easily move a propane forge out into the driveway, or just outside a shed for use. They are ideal for hammer ins as well.
Gas Forges are able to be purchased from many supplies or a blacksmith can make his own gas forge with only a few basic tools of a welder, drill press, and metal cutter.
I have been using a gas forge as my primary heat source for over 10 years now. I still use the coal forge, but the gas is so much cleaner. Both have their places and if your shop is big enough I would suggest having both available.

Hello to all’
I always felt bad for kids who showed up at practice in the spring with a youth baseball glove that looked like it just came off of the shelf at the store. It usually meant more work for me to show the player how to use this brand new glove. It is usually still brand new looking because it hasn’t been used very much. It also is new looking because nobody had broken it in for the player either.
Now there is probably a good reason for not having your kid’s glove not broken in, but I couldn’t think of one myself. It may have to do with my great love for youth baseball and baseball in general. My kid’s music teacher may think the same thing about me, I’m sure.
But anyway, having a glove that is not broken in or not broken in right, is a big disadvantage for young players. It is not easy to catch a baseball with this kind of a glove. Sometimes the player had not played baseball much either, so this makes even harder for the player. They see these other kids throwing and catching with relative ease, and want to do the same right now! Getting a glove for Christmas gives you time to get it broken in. When the player shows up at spring practice with a price tag still on the glove thats a little bit different.T hat’s when you a Youth Baseball Coach must be able to give them the crash course in getting that glove broken as quickly as possible.
Gloves themselves come in a wide range of prices and qualities.Better quality gloves of good leather will be noticeably harder to break in. They will last longer and perform better than cheaper models however.A good baseball glove reasonably cared for should last at least 3 years.Cheap little plastic tee ball gloves will not last that long, along with player growing out of it in 1 or 2 seasons.
There are many ways to break in a glove. I’ll give you my version.
First thing I do is take the glove, stretch, pull and bend it for as many minutes as I have time for.I’ll do this several times BEFORE I ever put anything on the youth baseball glove. This starts the break in process and opens up the leather somewhat to receive whatever glove treatment you use.
Let me state here that the absolute best method for breaking in a glove is to actually use it as much as possible. I always put some kind of treatment on first though.
So back to the break in methods. Next I apply a generous amount of any type of glove treatment and work it in as long as I can tolerate. Glove treatment is usually not as oily as say petroleum jelly. It soaks in faster and treats leather better, according to the bottle. Any product containing waxes or silicones should be avoided as they seal the leather pores.
Some people will not like this part of my glove break in.Others will swear by it. I will apply some heat to the leather. There are several ways to do this. Just be smart about it and apply only enough to help your treatment soak in better. Too much heat is bad for leather. I will not give any other details than that. Use common sense here. It is not required for a proper break in. So if aren’t comfortable doing this, don’t use heat.
I will then apply another light coating of petroleum jelly this time and spend some time working it in. I will also turn the glove inside out to help soften the leather. I will do this several times, sometimes leaving the glove overnight turned inside out.I am trying to get the glove to close easily and evenly not on an angle.I will put a couple of hours total time into the glove over a 2-3 week period.
I also use the age old method of leaving ball in the pocket of the youth baseball glove and tying it shut with rubber bands, string,a belt, whatever. Important note: form the pocket of your glove just right at the bottom of the webbing, not right in the middle of the glove. This will protect the players hand and fingers on a scorcher line drive or any throw. Train your youth baseball players to catch the ball in this pocket out of the way of your palm and fingers.Work the ball in and out of this pocket area by throwing it in and out of the glove from close range. Just walk around the house for a few minutes once in awhile slamming the ball in and out of the pocket that is right at the bottom of the webbing.
Be sure to work over the webbing a lot make it soft and pliable. This will help your player catch more balls and hang on to them. Be sure to use a sharpie and put your players name inside the glove also. Try to remember to lightly clean the glove once or twice during the season and apply a light coating of glove treatment the night before your game if possible.
Here’s one last tip for breaking your glove quickly. Go to the batting cages near you and instead of hitting catch some fastballs in the glove. This is for parents only.

Customer Review: Great for the price
I wanted a fish eye wide angle lens but didn’t want the high price. This lense fit the bill. Pictures very sharp and I get the fish eye effect I was looking for. It is attached to an 18-55mm lense. At the 18mm it does create a round view that shows the lens barrel but it is an interesting effect. Great lens for the price.
Customer Review: Great Lens!
This is a wonderful lens for someone who wants to try out with shooting fisheye but doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. The fisheye goes from very extreme with a full distorted circle to a nice wide angle. Great lens for the money!
One of the all time secrets in the soda pop industry is the Coca-Cola recipe. Its probably sold billions of bottles and cans of Coke due to this recipe and subsequently that appealing taste. The ingredients may not be very healthy but the taste does have sizzle. What has this got to do with basketball and free throw shooting. Well, we all know for sure that it is NO secret that the simple skill of free throw shooting is mediocre at best, In fact this mediocrity spans epidemic proportions.
There are many reasons for this mediocrity of the masses. One main reason being that when the game came into being they shot a basketball that had leather sections and seams that were stitched by hand. Imagine catching and shooting that ball with different and irregular feelings on the palm and fingers.
Not having to account for any ball irregularities is a huge plus. Imagine what the percentages would be if our pros today had to shoot with those antiquated basketballs. We still shoot considerably bad (70% is bad in my book) with modern high tech basketballs.
Anyhow, listed below you will find a list of physical flawed shooting actions that can lead to numerous shooting problems that continue to plague the globe. The key to great shooting is to minimize any extra movement that compromises correct scientific shooting principles or natural laws, like gravity or Newton’s law that said “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”.
It is hard for me to believe that a simple movement like a free throw can have so many possible problems. The way to diagnose the problems are to study the end result of the shot. Like using forensics to trace a killer. Was the shot short, long, off center, way left or just inside right, too flat or even too high?
An errant shot is like a crime being committed and under immediate investigation we backtrack and look for the culprit which could be one of the following killers responsible for the dead shot.
1. Is the ball arc on my shot too flat? (Always shoot ‘up’ and then ‘at’ the basket).
2. Does my shot have a side wards spin or rotation? (Usually the guide hands fault).
3. Does my shot rotate too fast, (fingers snap too fast) too slow or not at all?(usually the fault of the guide hand thumb).
4. Do I watch the ball in flight after I release the ball? (I should because it helps study rotation and you can see the whole picture better).
5. Do I watch the rim throughout the whole shot? (I lose the whole picture plus I don’t know where the ball is going to bounce if I miss. Good to read your rebound).
6. Why does my ball rebound so far on a missed shot? ( Arc of ball is too flat)
7. What causes my shot to go too far right or left? (Too far to the right, usually the last 3 fingers doing the shooting. Too far to the left elbow is out and follow through wrist at an angle. A definite scientific breakdown).
8. Does my ’shot pocket’ start too far from the center of my face? (Ideal ’shot pocket’ should be 2″ above the forehead and between the eyes).
9. Is my original ’shot pocket’ from the belly, chin or face area? (This is a result of age and lack of strength).
10. Do I ‘pause’ just before I release the ball on my jump shot? (You should).
11. Do I jump, pause and shoot or do I just shoot as I jump? ( To be able to jump, pause and shoot with correct timing requires physical strength to do so. Many youngsters usually under 12 years of age lack this strength needed).
12. Is my follow through too flat or too high? (Lock in at between 45 and 50 degrees)
13. On the follow through do I pull my wrist back like the kick back on a shotgun? ( Lock and leave). 14. Do my fingers point to the floor after the follow through? Hand in Cookie jar principle. (Bent knuckles mean excess movement and
causes errors).
15. Does my shooting arm move inward towards my body center line? (Never allow any lateral movement of any part of shooting mechanism.)
16. Are my fingers wide before, during and after the shot? ( Fingers never come together.(They are natural enemies during shooting and defense only)
17. Is my index finger not lined up with the center of the ball?)Form 90 degrees with seams)
18. Is my elbow joint directly under the center of the ball in the shooting pocket? Millions don’t do this due to physical constraints, muscle size etc. (You can start wide but elbow must come under center of ball prior to release. If
not you have a flying elbow).
19. Do I lock my elbow on the follow through and leave it there till ball hits rim? (At least from FT line out).
20. Am I aware of which finger touches the ball last? (Should be index).
21. Do my both hands touch the ball during the actual release? (One hand only).
22. Does the ball sit on the palm of my hand as I prepare to shoot? ( NO palm, just the pads on the fingers and one on thumb).
23. Is the ‘guide’ hand on top or below the ball prior to release? ( Must be on side or 90 degrees to shooting thumb).
24. Do I bend my knees and then bring the ball up to the shot pocket? (Bring the ball to the shot pocket and then bend the knees for better timing).
25. Do I bring the ball above or behind the head? (Should be in front center of forehead about 2″ above the eyes).
26. On my follow through again, does my pinky lead the way of all the fingers pointing to the floor? (No fingers bend at the knuckles. They all point to the rim except thumb).
27. Do I shoot too quickly. (Add time with increments of eye blinks).
28. During the life cycle of the shot am I thinking of making the basket? (Must forever think of your weakest point in your shooting mechanism and concentrate on that so it does not breakdown. Never, ever think of making the basket,
ever).
29. On the follow through, does my shooting hand form a ‘ball after the shot’ that looks like an armadillo, Hand should be wide so you can measure accountability for misbehaved fingers.)
30. Do I move my hand on the ball as I catch it, looking for a comfortable feeling? (Learn to catch the ball from a pass or off a dribble where you don’t have to move your hand at all. Shooting hand and guide hand should be 90 degrees to each other and ready to catch and shoot always).

Every woodworker inevitably needs a table saw to complete certain tasks. The type of table saw you buy for these tasks relies on what you use it for. Some are lightweight and mobile, while others are heavy and cumbersome.
The contractor table saw is a lightweight and portable machine, which often has wheels mounted on the base. The top is generally bolted to the base, however if the saw is to be moved regularly a wooden frame will suffice in holding the table saw in place without bolts. The motor on a contractor table saw is made to detach quickly as well. The top, base, and motor fit in any size truck bed with plenty of room to spare.
The cabinetmaker table saw is a stationary heavy-duty powerhouse, which is made for heavy use day after day. Generally you set one of the bad-boys up one time and hope you like where you located it. It will require a dedicated 220-volt electrical outlet, and a vacuum system for dust removal.
The contractor table saw is made with lightweight material, and thinner metal, while the cabinet table saw is made with cast iron. A table saw motor consists of a large coil of copper wire, which is very heavy. The cabinet table saw motor is generally bigger and heavier adding to the weight of the overall saw.
If you need to move it to the job site you will want to purchase a contractor table saw, but if you use it solely in the shop, the cabinet table saw will be your best bet. If you are just starting out you can probably purchase the contractor saw at first since the cost is a lot less. Eventually the cabinet shop will need a cabinet table saw as a permanent fixture.

We celebrate so many different events in our lives. We have weddings, birthday parties, work holiday functions, graduations, retirements, and the list goes on and on. So, how do we decide when it comes to picking a caterer? The most important aspect of a caterer is if he or she serves good tasting food. This should be evident to everyone. But another aspect is to gauge the appearance of the entire catering staff. Thus, it becomes necessary to visit another event that the catering company is working. Is the entire staff dressed professionally?
How about the people delivering the food? Are they wearing good looking pocket aprons? Make sure they are treating each box, each bit of food with care as items are being unloaded. If the catering company works as a well oiled machine the delivery people should be organized, speedy, and looking like important members of the company’s team.
Watch the serving staff the closest. Their appearance is crucial to have a successful event. Servers dressed in bib aprons can give off an appearance that they are wearing tuxedos. This will help add to the elegant fell of a party. Besides their garments, the serving staff should be well groomed. Nothing will turn guests off more quickly then having a catering company with waiters who are poorly groomed.
Finally, make sure you stick around to see how well the clean-up grew does and looks. Again, a person who is well groomed will likely care more about how well he or she cleans-up after a party. If you see a clean-up crew moving quickly around after or near the end of an event, dressed in their standard work aprons, working as a single unit, then you know the company and its employees care about the job that is being done. The serving staff may be the most important, but the clean-up staff will let you know how much the company really cares about customer satisfaction.
If you are concerned about what type of clothing a caterer should be wearing you might want to visit the iD by Landau website. They carry a variety of quality cooking and serving garments that are sold throughout the world to restaurant and catering firms. Specifically you can check out various types of pocket aprons, bib aprons, and work aprons. The folks at iD by Landau sell professional clothing to professional caterers. So, if your catering company looks as good as the models wearing the clothing on the iD by Landau website, you may have the right catering company.

If you’ve decided to put your home on the market as for sale by owner, it doesn’t mean you won’t need to have some help along the way. You will need at least two or three skilled people to help you; a mortgage company, a real estate attorney, and a title company. Here’s what these professionals can do for you.
A Mortgage Company
You can use a mortgage company or other type of lending institution to pre-qualify any prospective buyers for your home. That way you will know whether a buyer can even get a mortgage to purchase your house before you waste a lot of time and take your home off the market.
A good mortgage company or lender can provide many services to help you sell your home yourself. These services include a financial breakdown of how much money any buyer will need to purchase your home, calculation of the monthly payment and any other information the buyer will need.
Real Estate Attorney and Title Companies
A qualified real estate attorney or title company can help you prepare the sales agreement when you find a buyer for your home. They can also review any closing documents to make sure your interests are protected.
A real estate attorney or title company can be vital in helping you fill out a disclosure sheet that lists any problems with the house you sell. By completing this form correctly, you could be saving yourself from any possible lawsuits after the sale by fully disclosing any known problems or defects with the home.
Other Things to Consider
If you plan on selling your own home, you need to understand and research what houses have sold in your neighborhood, how long they were on the market, and what the amount they were sold for, not how much they were listed for. This will give you a good idea of the amount you can realistically price your home at, and how much money you can put into your pocket.
It’s a buyer’s market right now, and you will need to price your home accordingly and come up with advertising that points out the great features of your home. Keep in mind that when writing your ads you want to make your home stand out from the competition.
The quicker you need to sell your house, the less you can play around with the pricing of your home for sale. Price it to sell the first time and you can save yourself a lot of aggravation and stress.
You can sell your own home, but you need to be smart during the process, especially given the current market conditions. With a little research and planning you are well on your way to being a successful for sale by owner.

So many smart musicians get a small hand held digital recorder just to keep handy so if an idea pops up you can hum it into the recorder real quick and not let it get away. How many times have you been humming a great idea for a song and thought you’d remember it for later… ya right!
Years ago I had one but it was a mini cassette recorder, until it got stolen out of my car. The Boss Micro BR Digital Recorder makes good sense because it will serve this purpose but goes far beyond that as it’s a 4 track recorder as well, as opposed to the other mini, hand held digital recorders out there… I mean, why not get one that is a 4 track recording studio in your pocket as well?
This is not a home studio but a pocket studio! Really, four tracks that will play back simultaneously and 32 virtual tracks, which are actual tracks you can record many takes on and use later for picking the right ones and eventually build on to one of your 4 tracks for that “perfect take”.
For actual recording, you can use 2 tracks at once, so you and someone else on another guitar, bass or whatever can lay it down at the same time right down with the drum track.
Speaking of which, the drum tracks that come with it will play back without taking up any of the other tracks, meaning they’re independent of them. There are about 300 of these drum grooves ready to go.
But the really great feature this Boss Micro BR Digital Recorder has is one of the onboard effects, and that is the Time Stretch feature. I’ve used similar programs that cost several hundred bucks to do this “must have” feature. What it does is take any of your audio tracks, including mp3 format, and changes the tempo, up or down without changing the pitch. That’s right, your key stays the same and you can speed it up or slow it down. So you can download an mp3 drum track online and throw it on the Micro BR and totally change it to suit your tempo needs. Once you have this feature you really won’t be able to work without it.
This Digital Recorder has USB access and is totally mp3 compatible so it also doubles as your mp3 player when you’re not recording your own songs.
Other features are a built in microphone so you can yell into it, and a guitar tuner. Even though the included 128 MB sound card will only hold so much audio, you can buy more cards and plug them right into the USB port and dump your audio data onto it.
If a pocket studio is all you need to get your songs down then the Boss Micro BR Digital Recorder will do that easily… if you need something to do a bit more, you may want to look into the Boss BR-600.

Here are a couple tips to save your money in this economic crisis. Follow these guidelines and find more money in your pocket rather than spent on useless junk that you originally would of. Stop trying to buy something because it looks cute, you have to learn to cut out also and these tips will help.
1. Keep Minimum balance in Checking.
By keeping a small enough amount to pay the bills in our checking the rest can go into savings to get a little more interest on it.
2. Look for bonuses on credit cards.
If you are good with payments on your credit card bills look into rewards with certain creditors like Visa, the more you pay on time the more rewards you get and save money while spending money! Note: always pay your bills on time.
3. Look for deals in everything.
Coupons save you more than you realize. Go to the grocery store and take up that extra five minutes looking through that free coupon booklet, you can end up saving on items you continuously purchase and it adds up.
4. Avoid Debt.
By avoiding debt you can avoid all the late fee’s and hassle with the banks and creditors as I said before, this can save you in the long run greatly. Avoid those fee’s but also establish good credit and stay on good terms with those controlling your interest!
5. Look into trading and investment.
The most important in my opinion. This can gain you a bundle of money if you use correctly. With all the technology you can use most programs from home.
Use these tips and notice a difference in your pocket. While I have saved thousands by doing this the last year I gained even more by investment. For more on investment check out Here

It’s amazing how far chainsaw sharpeners have come in the past few years. It’s still wise to have a trusty round file with you in the woods for touch ups, but one hundred dollars will buy you an excellent electric chainsaw sharpener to mount in your workshop for perfect chain sharpening.
A number of manufacturers now sell electric bench mounted chainsaw sharpeners which allow very accurate settings for the angle of the grinder and the depth of cut. Automatic chain feeds quickly move the chain to the next tooth so all you have to do is lower the grinding head for a second on each cutter. As soon as you raise the grinding wheel from the chain the automatic feeder slides the chain to the next cutting tip and you repeat the process.
Some of the more popular models, such as the Garrett Wade 45T01 chainsaw sharpener, are very inexpensive, and do as good a job as any professional chainsaw sharpener. Many of these sharpeners are manufactured in Italy, and are commonly referred to as “easy use” chainsaw sharpeners in Europe.
These types of electric chain saw sharpeners usually come in different configurations, including standard models that sell for approximately $65 – $75, and quick feed chainsaw sharpener models that sell for approximately $100. The quick feed models include fully automatic electric chain feed mechanisms so all you have to do is lower the grinding wheel to sharpen each tooth professionally.
The average chainsaw chain can be sharpened in one minute or less with this type of electric chainsaw sharpener. Most models include exact angle settings and depth gauges, and are easily bench mounted in any workshop. They are light and compact so they don’t take up much room at all.
Some people will argue that the sharpening achieved from a chain grinder is never the same as when using a hand-held round file due to the shape of the grinder and the method in which it moves into the tooth. This may be true if you are a professional logger and use a round file every day to perform your job. But for 99% of the population there is no way that they can achieve the same consistency that you get with an automated electric chainsaw sharpener.
The consistent angle of sharpening that is achieved with an electric chainsaw sharpener, as well as the consistent depth and length of time that the grinding wheel is in contact with every tooth will provide far superior results. Amateur weekend warriors can now achieve professional results in minutes with an inexpensive electric chainsaw sharpener.
Get honest, practical advice about using an electric chainsaw sharpener at the Chain Saw Sharpeners guide. This information packed site teaches you how to sharpen your chainsaw, how to use a chainsaw sharpener properly, and the advantages of using a good quality chain saw sharpener.

The golf bag was created to make the sport of golf easier for the solo player. When you are by yourself and trying to enjoy a relaxing round of golf, it is important that you have all of your equipment at your side. The golf bag is used to carry the clubs, the drivers, the tees, and the balls. Contrary to popular belief, not all golf bags are created equal. Bags come in different styles, and different sizes. Depending upon your level of golfing needs you can easily pick the bag that is right for you. Some examples of the different bags are:
- Travel golf bags give the golfer the freedom that suits them. The bag is flexible for playing around while at the same time giving them a secure bag that can be taken on golf vacations for long rides in cars or on in the storage bay on airplanes. Most are made from a crush-proof material, like PVC to protect your clubs while traveling. They will often also have a keyed lock for theft prevention.
- Cart bags are a must have for any senior golfer. They are bigger and have more compartments to carry all of the golfer’s needs. The cart bag holds the clubs in such a way that it is impossible for them to tangle up when you are putting them in or taking them out. The biggest downfall to these bags are their size. Since they have so much room and are made with such sturdy materials, they take up more room to store and transport.
- Stand golf bags are the bags that most golfers lean towards. These statistics ring true due to the fact that most golfers walk the course rather than ride it. These stand bags are lightweight yet completely functional, giving the golfer more than enough room to store his clubs. The bag comes complete with a double strap so that the bags weight is distributed evenly throughout the shoulders and back.
- Staff/Tour bags are the bags that are used by the PGA professionals. They are spacious yet compact making them well sought after. These bags have the four-pocket traditional design, giving the golfer an organized way to carry all of his golfing needs.
- Carry bags are the middle point between the stand bag and the cart bag. They are lightweight enough that they can be carried with ease, but also roomy enough that you do not have to leave anything behind.
- Sunday/Pencil Bags are lightweight and at the same time extremely durable. The Sunday/Pencil Bag weighs in at just three pounds, making it the perfect bag to pick up, sling over your should and just go. This bag holds your clubs in one pocket and the balls and tees in another.
No matter what your golf level is, whether it be beginner, professional or just weekend warrior there is a bag that will fit your needs. Both comfort and functionality are key to finding the perfect bag for you.
