Canon’s redesigned compact EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II autofocus zoom lens (approximately a 28-90mm lens in 35mm format) is smaller and lighter than conventional lenses because of the shorter back focus distance. By reducing the distance from the rear of the lens to the imaging sensor and reducing the size of the image circle to accommodate the camera’s imaging sensor size, the lens produces high image quality with superb resolution at all focal lengths. By optimizing the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II lens coatings, Canon’s engineers have effectively minimized the chance of flare and ghosting which are more prone to occur with digital cameras than with film cameras. Customer Review: Get the new, improved version.
The newer Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens is the latest version of this kit lens, and is a vast optical improvement over this lens. The build quality of the new version is also a little better than this old lens. The new version is now the standard kit lens included with the EOS XSi camera. Best of all, the new one sells for much less than 200 dollars, so I wonder why they still try to sell this piece of junk for such a high price? It doesn’t even have IS (image stabilization). There must be people gullible enough to pay good money for below par products, when better can be found for less; if they would just take a few minutes to do a bit of research before purchasing. I have found several photo review sites that give good reviews to the new lens, but this old version is pretty much trashed in the reviews. The old lenses will have II in the name, but not IS; the new lenses will have IS in the name, but not II.

I purchased this camera bag based upon the only review given (5 star) for this product. It is a nice bag which compactly holds my Canon XS in the main compartment and the smaller accessories in the outside pocket but there is no way it also held his camcorder AND camera as stated. I can’t even get my extra lens in the bag with the camera so buyer beware if you want more room than just for your camera.

I used these to attach some Nikon and Zeiss manual-aperture lenses to my Canon EOS 5D Mark II to regain manual control over aperture settings when shooting video. They worked fine, no big issues. I wish the little tab you use to unlock the adapter from the lens were a bit more solidly-built; it feels like it might break after maybe 100+ operations. This is the reason (among several others) that I’m buying a few more units of this adapter, so I can just attach one to each of my Nikon manual lenses and leave them there. Overall, for the price they’re perfectly fine. I can’t justify spending $150 apiece for the competing brands, not right now at least. I’m hoping I won’t be proven wrong in the long run
