Reviewing the Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 Plasma HDTV

People usually review the picture first and we all know it looks just about as good as yesterday’s Pioneer Elite. What we know is that it uses less power than the Pioneer Elite, generates exceptionally good accurate colors, and looks very fabulous in a bright room.

What hardly anyone has taken notice of is the recently added on Amazon VOD function. It only took a firmware update from VIERA Cast to receive this new function.

Video quality for HD video is definitely outstanding. If it were in a race amongst Comcast’s compression and OTA HD it would fall somewhere in the middle. It appears to need somewhere around three to five megabits downstream to keep up the blue coded “HD” connection, so if you’ve got dial up or a low grade broadband you had best not even think about it.

With all that said the video buffer is insanely fast. Prices are usually cheaper than cable on demand by a couple dollars or so and the variety is very wide.

Having had the ownership of HDTV’s over time starting with a basic 32″ wide screen 1080i CRT’s ever made the G10 is in an entire arena onto its own. It doesn’t even compare. The only thing that might come close are the 9G Kuro Elites and have a fun time trying to locate one of those as there are only a few hundred or so that still has not been purchased. Pioneer removing themselves from the scene has left the torch carried on.

The one and only regret is that I did not hold out for the 54″ to come around before purchasing the 50 inch unit. Periodically I wished I had waited.
