DALLAS, Jul 16, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Flowserve Corp. /quotes/comstock/13*!fls/quotes/nls/fls (FLS 89.60, +0.84, +0.95%) , a global leader in the fluid motion and control industry, announced today it has acquired Valbart Srl, a privately owned Italian manufacturer of trunnion-mounted ball valves (TMBV) used primarily in the oil and gas industry.

Valbart was acquired in a cash transaction valued at approximately $200 million (at current exchange rates, or approximately EUR156 million), which value includes approximately $32 million (approximately EUR25 million) of existing Valbart net debt that was repaid at closing. Flowserve funded the transaction proceeds with cash on hand. The other terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
The Valbart acquisition is expected to have a slightly dilutive impact on Flowserve’s 2010 earnings per share due to non-cash purchase price accounting effects from inventory revaluation, partially offset by expected favorable operations impact. Valbart, formed in 2003 and headquartered in Mezzago, Italy, specializes in the design, development and manufacture of a comprehensive range of API 6A and API 6D TMBVs in split-body, all-welded and top-entry configurations, which are predominantly used in upstream and midstream oil and gas applications.
For its fiscal year ended May 31, 2010, Valbart reported revenues of approximately $104 million (approximately EUR81 million) and operating income of approximately $22 million (approximately EUR17 million) on an unaudited basis.

KANSAS CITY — Royals starter Gil Meche will begin his rehab assignment Wednesday for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Meche has been on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis since May 29. Royals manager Ned Yost said Meche will have a pitch count of 40-60 pitches.
In his bullpen sessions thus far, Meche hasn’t thrown his curveball, but Yost isn’t concerned.
“That’s not an issue,” Yost said. “You gotta get your fastball strength and command down first, and then the secondary pitches come real, real quick after that.”

KANSAS CITY — John Buck may find himself north of the border now, but the veteran catcher is no stranger to Kansas City.

Buck made his Major League debut for the Royals in 2004 and spent six seasons in Kansas City before agreeing to a one-year deal with the Blue Jays after the Royals signed catcher Jason Kendall in the 2009 offseason.

(FEC Hearing Transcript, 9/23/09) Three Commissioners found these excuses to be inaccurate, noting that Aristotle’s advertising still promoted using the FEC data for solicitation, and that the feature’s use for compliance was “negligible at best.” (FEC Commissioners Statement of Reasons 5/19/10, p3 and p. 5) However, the three Republican-appointed Commissioners believed Aristotle’s excuses about their CM5 product, and the Commissioners deadlocked 3-3 on whether to proceed against Aristotle. None of the excuses Aristotle made about their CM5 product are available to Aristotle regarding the 360 product. As noted above, Aristotle is explicitly marketing the use of FEC data in 360 for solicitation. Aristotle itself calls the 360 feature “important” and filed for a patent on it this year. And Aristotle’s own demo of the 360 feature states, “You can export your connection map to many different standard formats for customized use.” So Aristotle cannot use the same excuses again in this case.
Given the importance that Aristotle has given this matter by trying to patent their use of FEC contributor data, NGP believes that the FEC Commissioners will take a hard look at the complaint, and provide a definitive ruling regarding Aristotle’s use of FEC data.

“Permanently attach the balloon to the end of a hard piece of 10 foot long pipe. Attach the solenoid valve to the other end of the pipe. Attach the high pressure hose to the solenoid valve. Bring the pipe / balloon down to the broken pipe via underwater robot. Insert the balloon /pipe into the broken pipe past any damaged wall of the oil pipe. Produce several hundred pounds of compressed air. Trip the solenoid valve to instantly release the air into the balloon thus causing a blockage of oil. Continue pumping concrete into the end of the pipe and seal it off. “I am sure that someone has already thought of this but here it goes…..There is a bolted flange at the base of the cut pipe where the oil is spilling out. Someone has to invent a hydraulic impact wrench that will attach to the robotic under water equipment to remove the bolts from this flange. If this could be done, the flange with the cut pipe could be removed and a new flange with a high pressure ball valve in the open position could be set into place of the old flange (of course using a gasket so oil will not leak between flanges). The ball valve should have another flange on it towards the top for future bolting with steel lines to continue to gather oil. Attach the new flange with the valve (all in stainless steel to stand up to the salt water) with the valve open. Once installed, use the robotic equipment to shut the new valve off. Then hook up new piping to the new flange at the top of the valve to continue to retrieve the oil, leak free. I know it is easier said than done.
